Due to recent rainfall and to further rain expected from this evening into tomorrow Friday 19/09/2025, river levels are forecast to rise and may lead to flooding of low-lying land. Further rainfall is expected throughout the weekend. Areas most at risk include Rivers Ehen, Calder, Irt and Esk and other watercourses, from Harrington to Annaside including low lying areas around Whitehaven, Cleator Moor, Egremont, Gosforth, Eskdale and Bootle.

Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. Take care and avoid walking, cycling or driving through flood water. Refer to local authority website for road closures.

We are closely monitoring rainfall and river levels, clearing debris from weed screens and closing locks and floodgates where needed.
