Flood Warning: The upper River Chelmer

High river levels today may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible on Sunday 11th January 2026. River levels are high following heavy rainfall from Storm Goretti. Areas most at risk are low lying roads and riverside areas along the River Chelmer between Thaxted and Chelmsford, including Great Dunmow. We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are not expecting the situation to escalate. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses. This message will be updated by 10am Monday 12th January or as the situation changes.
