Flood Warning 064WAF6LittleStour

Nailbourne and Little Stour

Warning added: 10:27, 3rd March 2021

The Nailbourne & Little Stour have been flowing since mid-January. High groundwater levels mean that flooding is possible from Elham to Wickhambreaux. Flooding of low-lying land, gardens and roads is occurring at several locations. Some roads in Barham and Bridge will remain closed during March. The internal flooding of residential properties is not currently expected. The Littlebourne Flood Relief Channel is in operation and temporary defences operate in Barham. Our staff are ensuring free flow of water. We are monitoring the situation and co-ordinating efforts with local authorities and community leaders. Members of the public are advised to keep abreast of the forecast. Please avoid driving in floodwater as bow waves from vehicles may cause property flooding. Levels are gradually reducing but this Alert will remain in force until mid-March. Rain this week will not adversely affect the situation. This message will be updated by Monday 8 March or as the situation changes.
