Flood Warning: Groundwater flooding in East Kent
Message Last Updated:
Severity Last Changed: High groundwater levels may lead to flooding. Flooding is possible to low lying land, roads and properties with basements around the following areas: Petham Bourne, Alkham bourne and Nailbourne including Alkham, Temple Ewell, Elham, Barham, Bishopsbourne, Bridge, Patrixbourne and Bekesbourne. Groundwater levels in East Kent rose significantly following significant rainfall during January and early February. The Nailbourne continues to flow. During March, weather conditions became noticeably drier and groundwater levels are now generally falling. We are monitoring the situation and continue to liaise closely with our partners who have also been responding. Please avoid walking or driving through flood water and keep up to date with groundwater levels on the 'Check for Flooding' site on gov.uk. Riparian owners are reminded to check and clear any blockages and debris from the rivers. This message will be updated by 4:00PM on 10 April 2026 or as the situation changes. |
