High groundwater levels may lead to flooding.

Flooding is possible as a lot of rain (38mm) has fallen in the last week.

At the borehole at West Meon Hut, groundwater levels have risen by 1.1m in the last week. Flooding is affecting cellars of a small number of properties in Cheriton. Septic tanks will be struggling to operate effectively. On Wednesday (18/02/2026) further rain, which could possibly be heavy, is expected to affect Hampshire. If heavy rain affects the area, groundwater levels will rise more quickly. Cellar flooding impacts in Bramdean could occur from Thursday 19/02/2026.

We are closely monitoring the situation .

Residents are advised to prepare property resilience measures and ensure that pumps are working where they have been installed .

This message will be updated by 6:00PM on 23 February 2026 or as the situation changes.
