The Cuckmere River in Alfriston is high and rising following Wednesday's rain. In Hellingly, river levels are higher than normal, but slowly falling. Small amounts of rain are forecast each of the next five days, including Thursday morning, Thursday evening, and Friday morning. River levels will probably rise a small amount again. Minor flood impacts could return to gardens on Hammer Lane, Grove Hill, and Mill Lane, Station Road, Church Lane and Church Road, Hellingly, from 21:00 on 22/01/2026. Flood impacts could increase in Alfriston, potentially affecting North Street, Alfriston. River levels might not peak until Friday afternoon in Hellingly and until Saturday in Alfriston. We are closely monitoring the situation. Don't put yourself or others at risk. Avoid roads that flood (Mill Lane Church Road Hellingly, North Street Alfriston).
