Tide locking, where high tides restrict normal drainage of the river out to sea, is expected to cause flooding throughout the evening.
Flooding is expected from 7:00pm, 1 January to 10:30am, 2 January
Areas most at risk are in St Olaves, Somerleyton, Burgh St Peter, Oulton Broad and Beccles. Roads likely to be affected include Beccles Road at St Olaves, Geldeston Lock Lane, Gillingham Dam and Fen Lane in Beccles. River levels will remain high over the next couple of days.
We are closely monitoring the situation .
Stay away from floodwater - it contains hidden dangers such as open manhole covers, sewage and chemicals .
